In Closing . . .
If you have not reviewed your 2025 PDP options, do so now before it is too late.
If you asked for a review, and have not received a response from me, please reach out again. I am not ignoring anyone but some things have been trampled in this mess. Likewise, if we discussed changing drug plans, and I have not notified you of the new enrollment, don’t hesitate to remind me.
Be a wise shopper. Now, more than ever, you
will find lower drug copays by using a discount card like GoodRx or SingleCare.
Pay your premiums when due.
Almost every year I get a call from someone
who missed a premium and their insurance lapsed. If the error is caught in time you can save your plan by paying the back premiums.
But if you fail to catch up on the premiums on a timely basis, the only way to get your insurance back is to pass medical underwriting. If your health prevents reinstating
your policy your other option is to enroll in a Medicare Advantage plan during the next open enrollment.
With new coverage you still have no coverage for claims and unpaid bills that occurred before your new plan is effective.
Sometimes failing to pay your premium is an oversight . . . sometimes your premium is not paid because your funds were low. A few folks pay premiums automatically by credit card and then fail to update the card when they get a new one.
I
have had a few people who neglected to pay their premium because they were in the hospital and, understandably, paying bills was not on their mind.
One client went without a Medigap plan for two years until he could pass underwriting. Several chose to continue with only Medicare Part A, or have Part A and Part B. You are
more likely to run up high medical bills from outpatient (Part B) charges.
With Part A coverage only, your OOP (out of pocket) exposure is roughly $1600 (per admission) when you don’t have a supplement plan.
But without a supplement plan you are responsible for outpatient Part B charges without limit. You pay until you get well, run out of money or die.
Pay your premiums when due . . .
Consider this your last call at closing time. If you need something from me, including reminding me that I have not followed up on a review or plan change, you need to contact me no later than Friday, 11/22/2024.
Enjoy your holidays!
