2022 Open Enrollment EWN (Early Warning News)

The 2022 PDP landscape is blowing up. No specifics at this time. More to follow after the first of October.

I only have limited information on 23 Georgia Part D plans. At this time I have no idea if this will be all the plans for next year or not.

We currently have 27.

MAJOR COST SHIFTING

PDP premiums are on the rise with some plans DOUBLING their premium for 2022.

$30 seems to be the new “sweet” spot for drug plan premiums. There are still a few “bargain” plans with premiums below $20.

Plan deductibles are increasing pretty much like prior years. Nothing really earth shaking in that area . . . BUT many plans are applying the deductible to tier 2 and higher. At least SEVEN plans apply the deductible across the board for ALL covered medications.

Four plans have a $0 deductible.

Plans with a deductible are mostly consistent at $480.

OUTLOOK AND ADVISEMENT

Now more than ever is the time to rely on your drug plan primarily for higher priced brand name drugs.

Consider paying CASH, using a DISCOUNT plan like GoodRx and explore pharmacy in-house discounts. Also look at 90 day refills on all generics where there is a cost savings.
